Well actually most of the events I've posted are mixed blessings, in most of them you lose something. I'd prefer a diamond drill over an ICBM too, but perhaps other people would like it the other way around. Go figure.

I don't think Rast will appreciate the Sea of Rust giving positive events. He's all for the fight-to-the-centre thing : P

Yeah. If sitting along the coast becomes a viable strategy (to say nothing of islanding), he'll see it as a failure. He wants the center spots to be coveted by all, not just those with an eye towards that kind of strategy. Although I fully support increased coastal positive events (as I feel loyalty to my land for some reason), it's not likely to happen. I woudn't be shocked if more negative events showed up there, though, as coastal life is supposed to be a BAD THING in this game.

Well, I only thought positive coastal events because that's what the topic was about: positive events. And if Rasteroid doesn't like them, well, whatever! ^^U Most of them can easily be reversed to negatives: the monster eats your food, the pirates kidnap your favourite and ask a ransom, refugees from beyond the Sea of Rust start squatting in your shores... plus they're supposed to be "lucky" things not something you can depend upon.

Well, I agree that it would be nice to have them. I was just saying that you shouldn't get your hopes up. Still, here's hoping. Coast dwellers unite!

Here's a couple ideas:
A travelling band of the faithful declare the charred remains of a Warehouse to be holy ground. They immediately erect a Church on the sacred land. (Free Church)
Your Reactor workers call off for a religious holiday. "The Feast of Maximum Occupancy", or something like that. At least they brought back plenty of leftovers. (Reactor doesn't function, but +2 Food).
You discover an entire colony of rats nesting in one of your Warehouses! The people rejoice, with cries of "FRESH MEAT!!" (+1 Food)
A poor nation has brought their weaponry to you for immediate destruction, in accordance with a recent policy from the IWI. You make a mental note to do something with them later. (+1 ICBM, EUR, URO, or Cannon)

1) "This month is the holy month of 'kruh-shta-bee-emmers' all your gunners are bloodthirsty and gain +20% in local combat" 2) "This month is the holy month of 'bil-dup-beef-o-worr' you produce one additional basic and one additional refined material" 3) "Mining cave in causes tectonic shift revealing rich deposits, lose all mines but gain +1 to base PM" 4) "Your Minister of Interior orates a ecstatic speech culminating in your citizenry rounding up all dissidents and foreigners and then publicly executing them. All Spies and Agents and Diplomats in your country are killed." course countries affected by this would receive a different message "Mass uprisings and xenophobia in _____ resulted in the loss of our personnel there"

"Ramul shows up and offers you a gift for your past dealings. You receive 3 ICBM's!!! You hear a distant explosion as the servants are transporting them to the silos. Seems the klutz's dropped it and it went off killing them and destroying the other 2. 'Darwin award candidates' you think to yourself. An inspection of the wreckage turned up _____"

Ramul offers you a trade of (insert item here). You refuse his request, but offer him the Mystery Box instead. Poor Ramul. Always takes the box, no matter how many times you've filled it with mining wastes. (Gain the item Ramul offered).

There's a small problem with all random events having effects which carry over outside of maintenance (ie. your gunners are more accurate for one round! Ramul offers you mad deals!) because then I need to introduce more columns in the database to save state. Ideally everything that happens during maintenance is resolved during maintenance. Also, try to keep the descriptions down to 2 lines or so, Mr. Ramul's-life-story Throggg. (bil-dup-beef-o-worr? Get off the drugs buddy!)
