I have been pondering combat lately. It seems that it is rare that people do it. Last time I looked at the rankings only one person had a vassal. I have also noticed that when people do do combat they stockpile until they can go for a large MV score. This seems to piss everyone off.
Myself when I play Battlemines I try to work toward something that is easiest to get points. Combat is not one of them. The VS goes down as you lose Vassals, and the MV score goes down as the week go on. Once I had a MV of 5, after all my vassals were finished I realised that it would take a lot of work to get 6 MV and only increase my score by 1 pts (a relatively Stable score that is)
I seem to work on Hull Points mostly. Those are pts that will last through a DDD attack. (I always look at my position right after a DDD attack and hope that I have gone up) I like how Hull Points work as you have to do level one before you go onto level 2. Each level gets harder and harder as you need more resources. I try to keep my Hull Points at around 10.
I then began to think that it would be neat if the MV score was similar to Hull Points. This would work making a player have a MV score of 1 before the player can have a MV score of 2. Of course they can have as many vassals as they want but would only be awarded the point one level at a time.
They way it would work is at production if you have 1+ more vassals then your currect MV (Level) then your MV Level would go up by one. At next production it would be check again. The earlier levels this would be easier as one vassal can last several production (Around 8). You would get one vassal then after the first production attack someone else so at the second production you would have two.
To be successful you would have to build a structure that would maintain your current vassals then add one every production. If you started to lose vassals then you would save up and attack the number of people needed to get the next lvl.
You would also not lose 1 point of your MV score everyweek; however, there could be something that might reduce it once in a while similar to Hull Points.
I have not given this idea too much thought so please do not attack me with a flamewar, but offer some ideas. I am also not sure how hard it would be to program. I just think this might spread out combat so it is a little more regular, perhaps make working towards a MV score a little more attractive.
