If it is deemed okay by Rast I'd like to collect some info on buildings here, I.E. What kinda tile gives you what buildings and what the effects of said buildings seems to be.
First bit of news I built a tavern in grasslands, and having collected 10 wood was about to build my trading post when I noticed "sawmill" Unless it increases an as yet unseen pollution or intrinsicallly deforests the surrounding area it seems awesome as it removes the need for wood from all of your buildings

Nothing out of ordinary in the poles, AFAIK.

A well became available sometime after quarry in the tundra on a mountain tile, tho it doesn't seem to do anything.
A smithy built in the grasslands offers to make a weapon for "wood metal and coin"...speaking of which anyone find metal yet?
A town hall makes a message board in town and offers a mail delivery job that pays one coin on completion
An Inn will take your player off the display when you check in and seems to offer a regen bonus while checked in (unconfirmed)

Am very much hoping that proximity to large amounts of water opens up some very cool buildings later on... because it seems neither a sawmill nor a quarry are available at the site of my capital. Guessing (emphasis on guessing) a sawmill requires some or all of the following: 1. high or maxed out greenery in a grassland tile on which the city is built ("A copse of deciduous trees") 2. some number of neighbouring grassland tiles, possibly also with copses 3. a tavern, obviously

Also I have a suspicion that trees don't grow back on city tiles, can anyone confirm or (preferably) deny?

Well, just got my answer to both previous posts. Sawmill requires a tavern as well as a grassland tile with a copse of deciduous trees, and trees do grow back on city tiles.

From wht I can tell, when on a grasslands, if you strip your land of trees, you can build a farm. But when I let it grow back, I could then build the sawmill... I wonder what would happen if i strip mined my land again...

Farm needs metal though, and as yet I'm not sure how to get metal.

I think, by virtue of inadequately random map generation, metal may be very spartan or impossible to get on this map. Also I have not written the prospect action.

I still don't know if there's any special building up in the pole.... It's real hard to get to build anything there (even with a horse).
