I think we should include votes in the ranking score. This would fit in Rasteroid's theme of 'getting more power makes you more of a target.' Plus it would be interesting to see who the people are who's votes matter. And it would make people think about acquiring unnecessary votes.
Secondly, I think the 2x votes for Monarchy is overkill. A monarchy with even just four or five diplomats makes the non-monarchy votes fairly insignificant. How about just +4 votes, so being a monarchy puts you on a level with being speaker?

I think votes should be included more as a point of interest than a feature which actually does something. As in, it would be interesting to know who wouldbe voted for, but I don't think it should affect the game.
Someone suggested 1.5x for Monarchy before.

Considering a player in the middle of the map surrounded by other players to a distance of two tiles could have 24 diplomats, 1 vote = 1 point could be somewhat excessive (without even considering the possibility of placing diplomats and then moving away, thus severely reducing the possibility of their removal). It is theoretically possible to have more than 40 votes if you're a monarchy, which would put you in the #1 spot as of now even if you scored 0 in all other departments.

Yeah I wasn't saying it should be 1 vote = 1 point... but it should be something.

My guess is 4 or 5 votes for a point... rounded down, of course.

Ooooh I read this totally differently. I read it as, people vote for how high up you are in the ranking.

The thing here is, people who spend a lot of time getting a ton of diplomats down (which are all wiped by a DDD blast btw), yes they get a buttload of sway in the senate. But all in all, it's not that huge an advantage. Senate power doesn't really help you much, except for the condoning thing, which I'll probably take care of eventually.

I see your point, but isn't the same thing true to an even greater degree of your Most Vassals score?

True.. but way back in the day, Most Vassals was the ONLY permanent change you could make to your sort of battle mine account. There wasn't tech, hull, or anything like that. So it's a little piece of history.
