I wouldn't mind seeing a Government Map and a Trading/Leadership Map.
The Government Map would show each tile's government (Red = Communism, Green = Capitalism, Black = Anarchy, Purple = Technocracy, Orange = Theocracy, Blue = Monarchy, Cyan = Bureaucracy, Yellow = Democracy, White = Fascism ... just like each Government Icon's Background Colour...) with the Sea of Rust in the Sea of Rust colour, or gray.
Trading/Leadership Map would show where the Leaders are, and ability to trade with them. Black = Sea of Rust White = non-Leaders with no Customs House or Office Tower Yellow = non-Leaders with Customs House or Office Tower Green = Leaders without Office Towers Blue = Leaders with Office Towers
You wouldn't need to explain it here; just explain it quickly in the Documentation on Leaders. Just say "Leaders who cannot trade globally are shown on the Academy map as green; those who can, as blue. Players able to trade with Leaders are shown in yellow."
^_^ This would be useful to see at a glance who can trade with you, and who can't, if you're a Leader, and also let you see who can trade with other Leaders.

Well... political ideology is kind of hard to see from space.. so I'm kind of shuddery about that one. I'd be tempted to do it on a ye auld map style background or something.
The leaders.. their trades are global. The point is you don't need to be able to see them to trade with them.

Yes, but it would be fun to know where in the world they are, too. It would help Leaders, too. I mean, I'm a leader, but I have no idea who is able to trade with me. It would help me determine eligibility for lottery prizes Also, another map idea: Spy Network. Have it show where in the world you have spies, indicating in various shades what type of spy you have and where. ^__^

Spy map is a good idea! I like the government map idea too, although I can see how it doesn't fit in with the story behind Battle Mines...

Make the government map only available to Monarchies?
Or possibly only available to Leaders.
Hey, there's an idea. Government-specific maps.
Fascism would show vassals and masters: Masters: Blue (darker blue for more vassals) Vassals: Red Masters who are also a Vassal: Purple (darker purple for more vassals)
Democracy would show grow %: Only Food Chance: Shades of Blue 100% Food Chance: Blue Tree Chance: Shades of blue-green 100% Tree Chance: Green Bonus Food Chance: shades of green-yellow 100% Bonus Food Chance: Yellow
Anarchy would show where other Anarchies are. (heh)
Technocracy would show who has domes and who doesn't.
Theocracy would show who has churches and who doesn't.
Monarchy would show all governments. (or all diplomats?)
Bureaucracy would show who has the ability to trade with Leaders.
Communism would show all spies/agents/(diplomats?) in the world.
Capitalism would show how many items players currently have in their inventory: Has storage space: Shades of blue Negative storage space: Shades of red (whiter colours indicate less items)
Actually, an item map would be COOL. Then you could see when people were about to dump horribly when it rains XD

How about you combine the government and the spy map? As in, you have a spy there, you know what it's government is, therefore it can be shown on a map...

I'm planning on making a monument map available. If you have a dock.
