ok, numerous times (too many to count) i was holding a platinum sceptre before and after the turn of the hour and i was not made pope. what's the deal? the only thing i can think of is if our faith is exactly the same and so it doesnt switch over the pope... otherwise it screws up occaisionally.

Ass - I've *suspected* the same thing, but haven't had any hard proof for it yet...I usually just build to pope status and wee bit beyond a few minutes before the switch and check in later. Always just assumed the pope *happened* to be on at the same time and built past.
If you've actually got proof for it, it makes more sense than some random pope build up

How do you check your pope build up levels? I usually just build like crazy any "hope for pope."

Ahh, that's easy...just click on your name at the top of the screen....ut shows you what other people see when they look at you. It will be something like this:
High Priest Trymon, servant of Ja, Master of Fire. Long live the Sisters of Scissors!
He is holding a golden sceptre and a ruby mitre. Swiftness is in his step. blah blah blah blah yadda yadda What you want is the third line in - He is holding a golden sceptre and a ruby mitre. This line tells you what your faith is in relation to the Popes. The golden scepter means I am ranked #2 right now. Platinum sceptre and diamon mitre means you are going to be crowned pope, silver means 3rd place, and so forth. Severian had a great list of what all the info meant on your look at page, but you'll have to bug him for that ancient piece of info.

Great. I'd looked at others and self before, and figured there had to be some reason behind each of the comments, but I couldn't tell what much of it meant, so I stopped looking.

just happened to me again. said platinum before the hour. the time came and passed and no pope for me yet it still stays platinmum sceptre in my description.
ya, sev's list was awesome. it had most of the lines explained. "swiftness in his step" as mentioned above means you're a ninja. not that the red colour wouldn't give it away first!

Ok, the problem here is that the sceptre/mitre stuff doesn't take Ascension level into account. It just straight ranks the top 12 by faith.
So you're being beaten by an ascended pope with less faith.

Does anyone have this mythical document? Would they consider posting it here? Alternatively, Rast, would you be comfortable posting the logic that populates that page, so nothing would be left to guessing? You don't need to explain all the pieces, having seen some of your other code snipits, you appear to use fairly reasonable variable names, so someone with a little programming savvy could get the general idea.
