Now, I know from what's been said that as a Deva, even eating is enough to bring you down... But as an Asura, I'm wondering what I'm expected to do? should I be rending limbs from limb? Battling with Devas? Also, how did I become an Asura? I was awesome!

Didn't take me long to die... So, now I'm a Grasshopper, and I've flown back to mount firemore... Funny thing happened on the way. In the water, just near the top left corner, is a submerged signpost... sadly, couldn't read it... was it my lost city?

Most likely, the one that got eaten by the sea around Sumeru when the world expanded.
how did you die, big tough asura? were you stuck on Sumeru as you should have been? Sadly I haven't added an escape route yet, to let you out and terrorize the mainland.

hehe I logged in as Elmak and saw his view of your battle with Yoyada.
I really like where the game is getting. The events you come back to are fun and interesting. I can't wait to add more.

I saw something weird..
2h23m You eat a steak from the floor. 3h25m LynxShaman cries out, then falls down still. 3h25m LynxShaman kills xade. 3h25m xade attacks LynxShaman! 3h25m xade the asura arrives from the southwest. 18h15m You eat the potato you are carrying. 19h10m Several come and go. 22h14m The city pays you for guard duty.
what happened there, did you die? both of you?
The other weird thing is that I saw you walk in, as a human not meditating. hmz.

xade don't tease. I thought you were reporting a bug!
10h6m Toyowingo the grasshopper leaves southeast. 14h10m Several leave. 1d7h3m You eat a steak from the floor. 1d15h10m Kigadoom passes away from old age. 1d21h41m Your mom carries you around. 1d23h13m Your mom feeds you. 1d23h13m You starve to death. The world disintegrates, then reforms. Kigadoom, your mother, will take care of you now. 2d2h2m You are in a high traffic area!

Yeah, we both died... perhaps you saw it cause you were riding Lynx at the time? Also, didn't know if it was a bug or not, just knew that I starved, and got feed, at the same time. just hadn;t logged in for a day... Nice to see that when left to it's own devices, I'm happy to chow down on my moms corpse... Also, it's an easy fall from super-awesome-human that donates food to the hungry and is awesome. Seriously. First I became an Asura, and did what was natural - attack!, next, was a grasshopper. got eaten by an Asura. Then I believe I was a tiger- again, did what came naturally. Then a lost soul! It's a bit rough on the Karma! Although, re-thinking of all that... perhaps I was a Tiger when I attacked Lynx? actually... I think I was!

yes, at the moment karma is rather absolute, though actually a tiger killing for food has less karmic impact than say, a person killing their mom.
It's hard to say what to encourage.. behaviour natural to the creature in question, or appropriate to a high-minded deity? In "real" buddhist terms, this is why human rebirths are so rare: because many of the other creatures in the world are concerned with themselves, with killing and fucking.. not very good karmic enterprises, hence leading up to another negative rebirth.
The different aspect here is, you control the creature from a god-like perspective. I think it should be reasonable that a tiger which kills a lot for fun be reborn as a preta or asura, whereas a tiger that scavenges and eats only meat it did not kill itself, should have a chance at a more "positive" rebirth.
At the same time, there is a certain amount of turnover in rebirth selection, to keep it interesting. It's all a rather complex tapestry that I will have to do a lot of tuning on to get it feeling right.
