22.11 *****: you fuck with one of us, you fuck with all of us emu
This is an issue that rears it's ugly head every so often, but seems to be a growing, major issue and a big part of the "interpersonal" problems BM is having right now.
From the docs...
"Apart from the above, Factions have zero impact on gameplay. Factions or any other groups of players are strongly discouraged from picking on individual players. The one account per player rule must also stand, don't create dummies to join your faction. This rule may be strongly enforced."
Factions are meant to be social. They represent a group of players with common interests. They are not meant to be a warfare machine. As it stands right now, attacking a member of faction can earn you the retribution of up to 11 individuals (at last count of the largest faction), leading to a near perpetual servitude and vassalage.
Battlemines, in contrast to it's name, is not designed to be able to handle constant warfare. Once a player has been reduced, the time it takes to rebuild is not enough to build adequate defenses before you are destroyed again. Case in point is Severian, in my faction. For most of the past week he has been under vassalage, passed between alternating members of a handful of factions.
Pro-build or Pro-battle doesn't play a part - a single battle mine, even in top shape, cannot withstand the constant rape of even 2 or 3 attackers. A change is needed.
Some ideas, good or ill:
1. Factions dissolved - extreme, and takes out a lot of fun
2. Limit on attacks a faction can make against a single opponent, say one attack per 72 hours.
3. Damage protection - a battlemine is unable to be attacked if it has been attacked within the last 72 hours...unless it attacks someone before that time has past.
Ideas 2 & 3 would ideally be suspended for an opponent that has a scrambler or DDD at 90% or above.
I'm not arguing for less battle...for those that know me, I've done my fair share of hitting high and low profile targets. But balance in the battle area is broken, and the mentality of factions plays a big part in this. The "fun" factor of the game goes down significantly when any move you make can end up costing you months of work and reducing your land to a steaming pile of radioactive goo
Just my 8.5 cents worth.
